Middlefield is a very beautiful town, particularly in the transitional seasons. Cherry Hill Road, which runs nearly parallel to 147, has beautiful panoramic views in every direction. The sunrises are enjoyable, but as a resident of the town, I have to recommend you make that drive or hike around dusk for the sunsets over the hills.
For the towns best scenery, however, the only place to be is on Powder Hill Road. As the second highest point in the town, commanding views are afforded in every direction, and at any time of day. You will be in the apple and peach groves of Lyman Orchards, and you will not want to miss it.
Has a lovely public park, Peckham Park, which has four baseball fields, a soccer field, a jogging path, and a full on Jungle Gym extravaganza. The last item is great for families in the day, and teens at night. Trust meĀ ;)
A great place to visit, with whomever you are traveling with, is Wadsworth Falls State Park. There are hiking paths, bike paths, picnic areas, open grass areas for sports, and a 30 foot waterfall. The park was dedicated to and surrounds the Wadsworth Estate, upon which sits Wadsworth Mansion. A quintessential New England victorian, the Mansion is worth a visit, and available for booking of formal affairs.
